Blessing of the Bikes 6:30-7pm

Ride begins at 7pm

Blessings of the Bicycles

At 6:30pm the second annual Blessings of the Bicycles will take place on Union Street between Wilt and Jefferson. Pastor Thomas Eggold of Emmanuel Lutheran Church will be performing the blessing. Come on out before the Ride of Silence and have your favorite bicycle blessed! This is a non-denominational event, and everyone is welcome.

2016 Ride of Silence

At 7pm, the Ride of Silence will begin in North America and roll across the globe. Cyclists will take to the roads in a silent procession to honor cyclist who have been injured or killed while cycling on public roadways.

The first Ride was organized in 2003 when a cyclist was killed by a passing bus in Dallas, TX. The Ride which is held during National Bike Month, aims to raise awareness of motorists, police and city officials that cyclists have the legal right to public roadways. The Ride is also a chance to show respect for and honor the lives of those who have been injured or killed.

The Ride of Silence is a free event, and will begin directly after the Blessing of the Bicycles. Participants are expected to wear helmets, ride no faster than 12mph, follow the rules of the road, and remain silent throughout the event.
